Forty-eight Duke alumni were honored with awards at the Duke Alumni Engagement and Development (AED) annual alumni awards ceremony Sept. 20 and the Founder’s Day dinner Sept. 26.
“We have amazing alumni across the globe, and it’s an honor to recognize those who have gone above and beyond in their service to Duke, the alumni community and the world,” said Laura Heilenday, associate vice president and chief engagement officer.
Bart Haynes, who completed his training in internal medicine at the Duke Hospital, received the Distinguished Alumni Award, the highest honor from AED. He has been director of the Duke Human Vaccine Institute since 1999, where he leads a team of investigators working on vaccines for emerging infections, including tuberculosis, pandemic influenza, coronaviruses and HIV/AIDS.
