Luftgekühlt means “air-cooled” in German, but you could be forgiven for thinking it means “old Porsche cult,” given the huge turnout for Luftgekühlt 11 in Durham, North Carolina, at the American Tobacco campus. More than 400 air-cooled Porsches were artfully arranged around the complex and surrounding area, with one gobsmackingly beautiful car after another revealing itself as you walked the event. Historic race cars, resto-rods, and pristine original machines were all represented, along with the occasional endearing oddball. This was the first Luftgekühlt gathering on the East Coast. The event appeared to be a pretty big success, so we’d guess there’ll be more East Coast Lufts in the future…
