Police to detonate explosive chemical substance found at Shaw University in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Several streets near downtown Raleigh were shut down as police said they executed a plan to dispose of a hazardous chemical found at a building at Shaw University last week.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers were notified at around 5:10 p.m. Friday of a “hazardous materials containment issue” at the Roberts Science Building on E. South Street.

“Campus staff discovered an expired chemical that required disposal,” the Raleigh Police Department said in a Tuesday news release…
