Everyone loves a good burger, but everyone has their own idea of what makes the best burger. For us, it’s quality ingredients, a fair price, and a welcoming atmosphere. Al’s Burger Shack checks off all three boxes (and then some!), which is why we can proudly proclaim that they have North Carolina’s best burger.
Ask a University of North Carolina student where to find the best burger in North Carolina, and they’ll point you to Al’s Burger Shack. Al’s has four locations, including one right in the shadows of UNC. Other locations are in Leland, Apex, and a second one in Chapel Hill.
No matter which location you visit, you’re in for one of the best burgers you’ve ever had. While Al’s does have a dominant burger background, you’ll also find several delicious sandwiches, hot dogs, and sides on the menu. Speaking of sides, go ahead and order crispy fries, sweet potato fries, and tots. Yes, all three. For science the table!
You’ll find all of your traditional burgers at Al’s, including bacon cheeseburgers and chili cheeseburgers, but you’ll also find some signature burgers, too! The Kenny J is a BBQ cheeseburger with a North Carolinian twist: a Cheerwine BBQ sauce. Topped with spicy pimento cheese, grilled onions, and bacon, this is a fan favorite for sure.
The secret to Al’s famous burgers starts with the basics. They only use 100% Angus ground chuck, always fresh. Every patty is handmade and seasoned to perfection before being cooked to your preferred temperature and served on a buttered, toasted potato roll. All of the burgers are under $11, making them an affordable option without sacrificing quality.
Every one of Al’s sides comes with one of their house-made sauces (see why I suggested ordering all the carbs?), and the roasted garlic aioli is my favorite. Big fan of mixing that sauce with the Sriracha aioli, too! All of Al’s specialty toppings and sauces are made in-house. We say it time and time again: quality ingredients make long-term customers. Al’s Burger Shack does it better than most!
A burger and fries are only made better when you pair them with a milkshake. Al’s Burger Shack’s milkshakes aren’t just made from any old ice cream. They’re crafted with frozen custard from local creameries! Chocolate and Vanilla are iconic, but you might be inspired to try the Reese’s, Butterfinger, or Oreo milkshake. Al’s also serves beer, wine, and ice-cold soft drinks, too. They also have Mexican Coke and everyone’s favorite North Carolinian beverage, Cheerwine…
