Durham County has announced a scheduled closure of most government offices in observance of Veterans Day on November 11. According to an official release, the offices are set to resume normal hours starting November 12. This closure includes key services such as the Durham County General Services Department, which will see its solid waste and recycling convenience sites shut down for the day. Residents holding a 2025-2026 solid waste decal will need to wait until the following day to dispose of their garbage and recyclables.
Not all services will pause for the holiday. Durham County has confirmed that roadside recycling pickups during Veterans Day week will proceed without interruption. Residents are advised to have their recycling bins out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day to ensure collection, following the county’s guidelines. Additionally, the county recommends downloading the “Durham County Recycles” mobile app, available for both Apple and Android devices, to stay updated on recycling schedules.
All Durham County Library locations will be closed on Veterans Day. While physical branches will be unavailable, online services remain accessible through the library’s website. The Durham County Department of Public Health will also be closed for the day and advises residents to call 911 for public health emergencies and ask for the on-call response team member. Similarly, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will be available to respond to calls related to child abuse and neglect.
