Durham County Residents Invited to Support Local Veterans with Green Lights and Attend Annual Veterans Day Celebration

Durham County, North Carolina, will take part in the 2025 Operation Green Light for Veterans. This is a national initiative to recognize and support military veterans. From November 4 to November 11, 2025, several Durham County government buildings and landmarks will be lit green. The county joins over 450 others that have participated in recent years. The initiative is organized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers. Its goal is to raise awareness about veterans’ challenges and available resources.

Key Durham County buildings that will be illuminated include the Administration II Building, the Taurus sculpture, the Human Services Building, and the Durham County Courthouse. All are located in downtown Durham. Linzie Atkins, Director of Durham County Veteran Services, said the green lights are a way to show support for veterans.

Residents, businesses, and community organizations in Durham County are encouraged to participate by changing at least one light bulb to green. Green bulbs can be purchased locally or online. A limited number of free bulbs will be available at the Durham County Veteran Services office at 201 N. Roxboro Street starting October 27, 2025, during business hours…
