Durham Tech Breaks Ground on New $112.7M Health Sciences Building

Durham, N.C. — Durham Technical Community College joined county officials and health-care partners on Tuesday, Oct. 28, to break ground on an 80,000-square-foot Health Sciences building, marking a major investment in Durham’s growing medical workforce pipeline.

The new facility represents a key milestone made possible by Durham County voters and Commissioners, who approved a $112.7 million bond referendum in 2022, a portion of which was earmarked for this transformational project.

State-of-the-Art Training for Health Care Careers

The Health Sciences building will house Durham Tech’s leading programs, including Nursing, Medical Assisting, Surgical Technology, Anesthesia Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Clinical Research, and Occupational Therapy Assistant.

The facility’s design features:

  • Four classrooms and two computer labs
  • 21 allied-health labs and simulation settings
  • 1,600 square feet of student collaboration areas
  • 14,000 square feet of academic support space
  • 1,500 square feet of building support areas
