Provost Alec Gallimore announced a new Center for Teaching and Learning and other “organizational changes” to academic instructional support in a Friday morning email to University faculty, staff and students.
The new center will partially replace the Office of Learning Innovation and Lifetime Education (LILE), which Gallimore said will shutter its doors. Instead, the Center for Teaching and Learning will host many of LILE’s offerings, such as online and hybrid class support and classroom tools like Canvas. Other LILE functions, like technology support and maintenance, will be transferred to the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and Student Information Services and Systems (SISS). Its education instruction programming, including Summer Sessions and pre-college courses, “will be reimagined over time to strengthen faculty and academic unit engagement.”
“We recognize that transitions like these are never easy, particularly when they affect colleagues and long-standing teams. These decisions have been made with great care and thoughtful input from faculty and administrators across the university,” Gallimore wrote. “While this change marks the end of LILE as a unit, our commitment to supporting innovative teaching and learning at Duke remains steadfast.”…
