Mental health support, low attendance at Durham Public Schools after CBP agents spotted in Triangle

As federal Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents conduct immigration enforcement operations in parts of the Triangle, attendance for Latino students with Durham Public Schools is down for the day. School leaders believe this is out of fear. High school students express uncertainty.

“We’re not really sure who they’re going to go after,” said Durham Public School counselor Carmen Ramos. “They are fearful of walking to school and getting detained or questioned. Somebody putting a gun in their face. They are fearful of their parents going to work. Going outside of the household.”
