In a recent social media post, Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht Jr. expressed his concerns over the activities of federal agents in the city, particularly those from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The mayor, who presides over a town where more than a quarter of the population are immigrants, lamented the fear and mistrust that these operations have instilled in the community. The agents’ activities were neither coordinated with nor conducted by the Cary Police Department, which prides itself on maintaining Cary’s status as one of the safest cities in America.
