ARTS & CULTURE
Takudzwa “Taku” Chikepe sees the world differently. “I’m quick to understand things people are quick to see, but there are things people are reluctant to notice,” he said. “Those are the things I talk about in my poetry.”
At 35, the award-winning poet, scholar, and African intellectual—known globally as VaChikepe: The Poet—has carved a path from Katanga Norton, Zimbabwe, to Chapel Hill that reads like a story touched by serendipity, faith, and creative purpose. His journey, fueled by vision and a belief that “if you walk toward your dreams, your dreams will walk toward you,” continues to unfold in North Carolina, where he is building a multifaceted life in ministry, scholarship, leadership, and the arts.
