The Crisis Assistance Response & Engagement (CARE) Team has received the Rooted in Results Award from the Central Pines Regional Council. The CARE Team is a partnership between the Carrboro Police Department, Chapel Hill Police Department, and Orange County. The award was presented at the Council’s 2025 End of Year Celebration & Golden Pinecone Awards in Durham on December 4, 2025.
The CARE Team began in May 2024. It offers a non-law enforcement response to behavioral health crises, substance use issues, and other non-emergency needs. The team includes crisis counselors, peer support specialists, and community EMTs. An embedded 911 crisis counselor also supports the team.
