Holiday Schedule Changes: What Durham Residents Need to Know About City Services, Trash Collection, and Facility Closures

The City of Durham has announced its schedule for service changes and facility closures during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Most city offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency facilities, will be closed to the public on December 24, 25, 26, and January 1. These closures will affect services such as waste collection, parks and recreation, and parking operations.

Curbside solid waste collections, including garbage, recycling, and yard waste, will be delayed by one business day starting December 25. These facilities will remain closed on December 25 and January 1. Normal hours will resume on December 26 and January 2. Residents can sign up for collection alerts on the city’s website or through the Durham Rollout app.

The city will offer free drop-off for live Christmas trees at the Waste Disposal and Recycling Center at 2115 E. Club Blvd. from January 5 through February 7. Specific hours of operation will apply. Four retail locations—two Lowe’s Home Improvement stores and two Home Depot stores—will accept live trees on January 10, 17, and 24 from 8 a.m. to noon. Environmental Services staff will be available at these sites. Curbside collection of live trees is available for current yard waste and exempt service customers from January 2 through February 2, on regular collection days…
