Monday temps may be the coldest the Triangle has seen in 1,000+ days

Triangle temperatures on Monday, Dec. 15 plummeted to 15 degrees. National Weather Service Raleigh issued a cold weather advisory, noting the conditions can pose serious risk for anyone outdoors without adequate protection.

Wind chills Monday morning were 6 degrees around the Triangle.

Coldest temperatures in 1,000+ days

This could be the coldest temperature on record since around Christmas of 2022, WRAL reported. That’s more than 1,000 days.

It’s been a cold December so far. Last week, many in the Triangle looked out their windows to what they probably assumed was a snowy scene. But it was actually graupel, or very small sleet or ice pellets, The News & Observer reported on Friday.
