Barnesville Holiday Shooting Prompts Urgent Search; Suspect Still at Large

The Barnesville Police Department has released new information and identified a suspect in the Christmas morning shooting that left one person injured and prompted a holiday search for the man who fled the scene.

According to Lt. Michael Rainer with Barnesville Police, the shooting happened at approximately 12:50 a.m. at a residence on Kate Court in Barnesville.

Police now say Gregory Young, 35, of Durham, North Carolina, is wanted in connection with the Christmas morning incident. Investigators say Young kicked in the door of the residence, an argument followed, and gunfire was exchanged.

Chris Smith, 31, was shot in the abdomen and was transported to the hospital. Smith underwent surgery, and police say he is currently recovering.

The resident of the Kate Court home, Chelsea Peters, 34, recently moved to Barnesville. Police say Young is Peters’ former boyfriend, and the two share children…
