North Carolina deputy shot twice in hostage rescue spent Christmas recovering, shares thoughts on recently injured officers

PITTSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — One central North Carolina deputy spent his Christmas recovering after he was shot twice while rescuing a hostage during an armed standoff in Chatham County 12 days ago.

The shootout injured Deputy Matthew Mitchell on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 16, at a home at 8247 Pittsboro Goldston Road, in the Bear Creek area just northeast of Goldston, according to a Chatham County Sheriff’s Office news release.
