Ross, Wallace Close West Coast Trip with Pair of Wins

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Duke wrestling tandem of Dylan Ross and Aidan Wallace closed the Blue Devils’ West Coast trip Saturday evening with their second wins of the weekend, while Duke dropped a 28-16 bout to Cal Poly at Mott Athletics Center in San Louis Obispo.

Ross and Wallace have combined to record a 32-9 ledger on the year for the Blue Devils. With the loss, Duke moved to 6-8 overall, while Cal Poly improved to 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Down 11-1 in the third period, redshirt freshman Riley Rowan registered Duke’s first takedown of the evening against Leo Macias, but ended up dropping a 13-4 major decision at 133 pounds.
  • Junior Raymond Adams fell behind, 1-0, early, but collected a takedown in the first against Alek Vanbebber to register a 3-1 advantage at 141 pounds.Adams, who is from Merrick, New York, added an escape early in the second and then another takedown to move the score to 7-1.Vanbebber registered a couple of points and Adams totaled and escape to give the Blue Devil an 8-3 lead.Adams closed the bout with an 8-3 decision to get Duke on the board with three points.
  • Duke’s Dylan Ross and Cal Poly’s Gavin Fernandez had an eventful first period with Ross taking a 9-4 lead at 149 pounds.Ross, who is from Edgewater, New Jersey, opened the second with an escape and takedown to go ahead, 13-4.Leading, 13-5, entering the third, Ross closed the contest with a 14-5 major decision.Duke trailed, 9-7, through four bouts.
  • With Cal Poly leading 20-7, 20th-ranked Aidan Wallace went up against Cash Stewart at 174 pounds.The wrestlers finished the first period scoreless and another scoreless second, but Wallace racked up two minutes of riding time in the process.Wallace, a product of Mahwah, New Jersey, totaled an escape to go ahead, 1-0, in the third and ended up collecting 2-0 decision to give Duke 10 points.
  • After falling behind, 4-2, in the first period, redshirt freshman Owen McGrory reeled off five points to take a 7-4 lead heading into the second period against Wesley Wilson at 197 pounds.Wilson came back to hold an 8-7 lead to open the third, but McGrory responded by going ahead, 9-8.With a takedown, Wilson regained the lead, 11-9, with under a minute remaining and held on for a 13-9 decision.
  • Redshirt junior Connor Barket stepped up to wrestle at heavyweight, but Cal Poly forfeited the match.

NOTES

  • Raymond Adams collected his eighth win of the season and 20th of his collegiate career. He owns a career-high five dual match wins on the year.
  • Dylan Ross improved to 12-7 on the season and 5-5 in dual match action. He has won six out of his last eight matches.
  • Aidan Wallace tied a career-high with 22 wins on the season. He matched last season’s 22-10 ledger at 165 pounds. In his career, Wallace has registered a 45-15 overall record and is 22-2 on the year. He is 12-1 in dual matches in 2025-26.
