Gusts topple tree onto power lines, sparking grass fire near Cary in Chatham County

CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — Amid a high fire risk day with gusty winds, low humidity, and a drought, high winds blew a tree onto power lines in Chatham County just outside Cary, sparking a fire.

The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. along Lewter Shop Road, which turns into Morrisville Parkway, near the Ferrell Road intersection in northeastern Chatham County.
