CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — As investigations into the Town of Cary’s finances continue, the office of the North Carolina state auditor announced Monday afternoon that “potential criminal activity” by former Town Manager Sean Stegall was found.
According to the office, State Auditor Dave Boliek held a meeting with Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman and the director of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation about the town’s issues. During that, Boliek shared with them an “initial forensic analysis” done by his office’s Investigative Division that revealed transactions that “are potentially indicative of fraud.”
“As we move forward with our own review into the Town of Cary, the State Auditor’s Office will continue working with law enforcement officials and the Wake County District Attorney’s Office on this matter,” Boliek said in a released statement. “Our goal is to be as useful as possible in providing information that may support any prosecution of criminal activity.”…
