NWS Forecasts Rain, Snow, and Colder Temperatures for Raleigh Area

Residents in Raleigh and across central North Carolina can expect a mix of precipitation and lower temperatures today, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast indicates rain changing to snow in parts of the region, with precipitation forecasted throughout the day. Snow accumulation of up to one-half inch is possible, mainly on grassy and elevated surfaces.

Skies are expected to clear overnight, but the NWS advises that hazardous conditions may develop as temperatures fall to around 21 degrees. Wet roadways could freeze, leading to the potential for black ice during the Monday morning commute. Temperatures are forecast to rise into the mid-40s by the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Looking ahead to midweek, the NWS forecasts another surge of Arctic air entering the region early next week. Wind chill values are expected to fall into the teens on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
