DURHAM, NC – Two people are dead following a late-night shooting in Durham, and investigators now believe the incident may have been a murder-suicide. The tragedy unfolded Tuesday night in a residential area off Crest Street, leaving neighbors shaken and authorities searching for answers.

What Happened

The Durham Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 2800 block of Crest Street.

At approximately 10:04 p.m. on February 3, 2026, officers responded to reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they located an adult male and an adult female suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police have identified the victims as:

  • Shakeva Dixon, 27, of Durham, NC
  • Maurice Langston, 36, of Goldsboro, NC

Based on preliminary findings, investigators believe the shooting appears to be a murder-suicide, though the case remains active.
