Durham Association of Educators has been pushing for change in the Durham Public School system since a 2024 scandal saw the district revoke pay raises that were allegedly the result of a payroll error for its 1,300 classified workers.
The scandal pushed the DPS Board to agree to regular “meet and confer” sessions with DAE. Now that DPS is in budget season, these talks have ramped up.
At a Thursday meeting between district leadership and members of the DAE, the district presented early budget plans for the upcoming year and reached agreement with the union on two joint proposals, even as tensions over pay increases persisted…
