Venturing into Durham for Valentine’s Week arts offerings

Looking forward to Valentine’s Day and recovering from a tough loss, here are some arts-related ways to celebrate around Durham.

DPAC:

Two-time Grammy-winner for her jazz vocals, Diana Krall kicks off the week at DPAC on Wednesday. She is known as one of the greatest jazz artists of this century, being named the “second-greatest jazz artist of the decade” by Billboard in 2009.

On Thursday Grateful Dead cover band, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, will take the stage at DPAC. The Grateful Dead has a long and illustrious relationship with Duke, performing on-campus five times between 1971 and 1982. Joe Russo’s cover band will surely help Durham and Duke relive that wonderful relationship.

South Carolina natives, NEEDTOBREATHE hits the stage on Valentine’s Day. Best known for their platinum track “Brother,” the band has been a staple in the alt-rock and country space for over two decades. They are looking forward to the release of their tenth studio album, “The Long Surrender” at the end of March.

Carolina Theatre:

Drum Tao will take over Fletcher Hall this Thursday. Their performance blends traditional Japanese “Wadaiko” with modern energy, athleticism and flair. The band has sold out shows across 26 countries with their drumming performance alongside lighter instruments like flutes and harps…
