Gas leak prompts emergency response in downtown Durham

Authorities responded to gas leak Sunday morning in downtown Durham.

At 2:15 a.m., the Durham Fire Department was called to the 300 block of E. Main Street. A van had struck a commercial gas meter on a building, causing an active gas leak.

Fire crews secured the area and determined that no one was in the building. Enbridge Gas Company arrived and managed to shut off the gas around 4:30 a.m. Emergency teams are still on-site removing residual gas from the building…
