ECU responds with 10-3 win over North Carolina in Durham

A day after being embarrassed on its home field, East Carolina responded in a major way as the three-game series against North Carolina shifted to Durham, riding a dominant relief outing from sophomore Sean Jenkins, and a career day from freshman outfielder Grady Lenahan to a 10-3 triumph over the 10th-ranked Tar Heels in front of 6,397 fans inside Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The win left the three-game series tied at a game apiece, and ECU fans feeling a whole lot better, compared to how they examined things leaving Clark-LeClair Stadium on Friday night in a 10-0 run-rule loss. The series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET inside Boshamer Stadium on Sunday in Chapel Hill.

“Last night was hard,” ECU head coach Cliff Godwin said. “When you’re in front of your home crowd, and you perform like we performed, you’re not happy about it. If you’ve coached college baseball long enough, you know there’s going to be ebbs and flows during the season. Of course, none of us thought we weren’t going to play good hardly at all the first six games…
