A Hillsborough couple transformed a house into a crafting retreat that you can book

Set along Miller Road, away from the pace of traffic and the pull of daily obligation, there’s a house where weekends unfold a little differently. Sewing machines hum. Fabric is spread across long tables. Coffee is poured, stories are shared, and projects slowly take shape stitch by stitch. At G’s Quilt and Craft Retreat, the rhythm is simple: quilt, craft, eat, sleep—then repeat.

The idea began as a conversation at the edge of retirement. Karen Gallegly’s husband, preparing to step away from his career as a computer industry consultant, asked a straightforward question: Did she want to open a quilt retreat? Karen, a longtime elementary school teacher, had always understood the value of community spaces—places where people gather around shared purpose. Together, they researched the region and saw a clear gap. Quilters and crafters needed somewhere designed specifically for them—a dedicated space to work uninterrupted, exchange ideas, and enjoy fellowship with others who understood the quiet satisfaction of finishing a binding or perfecting a paper craft layout.
