Tree down on I-40 in Cary leads to 3 damaged cars; traffic slowly returning to normal, NCSHP says

CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — Wind and rain brought down a tree across a section of Interstate 40 in Cary, damaging three cars and backing up traffic Thursday afternoon.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, wind and rain brought the tree down across I-40 around 3:30 p.m., just before the exit to Harrison Avenue at mile marker 286.

Three cars collided with the tree before North Carolina Department of Transportation crews were able to get to the scene and begin clearing the roadway, according to NCSHP. No people were hurt in any of the crashes, but traffic was backed up.

NCDOT crews moved the tree to the shoulder, NCSHP said, with traffic flowing as normal, albeit slow for the time being…
