Students criticize Duke’s ‘exorbitantly expensive’ new cost of attendance

Students reacted with frustration and disappointment following Duke’s announcement that the undergraduate cost of attendance would exceed $96,000 in the 2026-27 academic year.

During its quarterly meeting in February, the Board of Trustees approved the 4.95% increase, bringing the University’s price tag for those not receiving aid to $96,597 — $73,740 for tuition and $22,857 for room, board and standard fees.

Although not all peer institutions in the Ivy+ grouping have disclosed their undergraduate tuition for the coming academic year, Duke’s price tag was on the higher end. So far, only Brown University has a higher tuition at $74,568…
