The Creedmoor Board of Commissioners — in separate actions Tuesday on split votes — appointed Mayor pro tem Archer Wilkins to the South Granville Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors and adopted a water quality policy for the city.
Both matters proved controversial, as Commissioner Ed Gleason objected to the appointment of Wilkins and Commissioner Georgana Kicinski joined Gleason in opposing the water quality policy as unnecessary and misleading.
The opportunity to appoint Wilkins to the SGWASA Board came about when Commissioner Robert Way stated he was stepping down from his seat on the board. He said he had told Wilkins that he would step down in order to provide an opportunity for WIlkins to be appointed. But Way also noted that other commissioners might wish to serve in that capacity and it was not certain that Wilkins would receive the appointment.
Gleason objected that Wilkins served on the board for a decade previously “and did nothing.”
