Duke announces $203 million commitment in new Durham investment plan

Duke will commit over $203 million to “employ, build, buy and invest” in Durham the next three years, reinforcing its role as one of the city’s largest economic anchors.

Under the initiative — a collaboration between the University and Duke Health known as Duke HomeGrown — the University aims to leverage the University’s “market influence” to “stimulate additional local and regional economic growth,” according to a Wednesday press release.

The plan entails a substantial increase in the University’s financial investments in the city, including $120 million toward Durham and Triangle area construction-related films, an additional $38 million for affordable housing development and a $45 million boost in spending on local businesses…
