There’s only one blue blood job on the market after all. There has been some speculation on whether or not Kansas’ legendary head coach, Bill Self, would return for the 2026-2027 season. That speculation ended when Self announced that he will indeed return to coach for the Jayhawks for at least another season.
Self gave an official statement on Thursday regarding the situation and speculation of his return:
“With renewed clarity and the ongoing support from our administration, I remain focused and committed to Kansas basketball competing for a national championship,” Self said. “I look forward to seeing and hearing the best fans in college basketball next season at Allen Fieldhouse.”
With a major job officially locked up and off the market, this leaves Carolina as the lone top job in college basketball, officially unrivaled by any other opening in the sport.
While Carolina may have been the supreme job regardless, now there is absolutely no question. Carolina will not have to compete with other top schools for the targeted candidates, but the problem still lies in being able to drag coaches away from their current schools…
