A Durham Islamic center that was the first mosque in the state has been recognized for its part in North Carolina history.
The Ar-Razzaq Islamic Center at 1002 W. Chapel Hill St. on Friday received a North Carolina Highway Historical Marker honoring the prominent congregation of African American Muslims that influenced other communities through its outreach.
