The Cary Police Department is mourning the loss of Detective Andy Maurer, describing him as “one of their own” in a social media post.
In a statement posted to the department’s Facebook page, officials said Maurer died after what they called a “long and courageous battle with cancer.”
His colleagues highlighted his distinguished service, saying that he most notably represented the agency as its FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force officer, a role that placed him at the center of critical regional and national security work…
