Attempted Murder Investigation Leads to Heavy Police Presence in Chatham County

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is acknowledging a “heavy law enforcement presence” in parts of the county which was tied to an ongoing attempted murder investigation led by the Chapel Hill Police Department.

The sheriff’s office says it assisted the CHPD Friday in serving four search warrants at separate addresses. The warrants were in connection with a shooting reported Sunday, April 5 at an apartment complex on Westminster Drive in Chapel Hill, just south of Weaver Dairy Road. A release from the sheriff’s office says the operation “was completed safely and without incident,” and that a suspect in the attempted murder case was located and served with warrants.

“We understand a large police presence can be concerning for residents,” said Chatham County Chief Deputy Steve Maynor. “We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as deputies worked alongside our law enforcement partners to assist in this investigation. I’m proud of the teamwork and care our personnel demonstrated throughout the operation, and we’re grateful it was completed safely and without incident.”…
