No death penalty for North Carolina man accused of killing housekeeper

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The Hillsborough man accused of murdering his housekeeper appeared in the Orange County Courthouse on Tuesday.

According to court records, 53-year-old Matthew Jared Vukmer is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 54-year-old Paula Floyd, who investigators said was stabbed inside his Hillsborough home on March 6. Vukmer’s wife called 911 during the incident.

In Tuesday’s hearing, the death penalty was taken off the table in this case. District Attorney Jeffrey Nieman told CBS 17 that when he was elected, he vowed not to use the death penalty in any cases. He also noted that the death penalty is actively not sought in Orange or Chatham counties…
