Orange County Schools Board of Education Reviews Budget Requests for the Upcoming Academic Year

The Orange County Board of Education recently review the district staff’s preferred budget for the upcoming school year, signing off on a $1.96 million continuation budget request and $1.93 million expansion request from the county government.

Orange County Schools’ $48.7 million total budget will be presented to the county commissioners for review at a joint meeting between the school districts and county leaders on Thursday, April 30.

Due to declining enrollment trends, the OCS district is projected to see a $1.6 million reduction in state allotments, which will likely impact classroom teacher positions, transportation roles, and Exceptional Children programs. Anticipating budget cuts at the state and local levels, Chief Finance Officer Rhonda Rath said the district had “substantially” lower instructional spending this quarter compared to the last.
