Edmond residents to see higher water costs as city invests in aging infrastructure
EDMOND, Okla. – Starting in July, Edmond residents will see a rise in the cost of water reflected in their monthly statement after the City Council unanimously passed the rate hike during its regular scheduled city council meeting in May.
In the City of Edmond, water base rates will increase by $18 a month, starting July 1. City leaders said three major factors went into this decision:
- The rate hike will fund a replacement of the aging system that dates back to the 1980s.
- It will support Edmond’s continued growth.
- The increase will also help the city become less dependent on Oklahoma City for its water supply.
Edmond City Councilmember Preston Watterson said by expanding the Arcadia Lake Water Treatment Plant, Edmond will gain water independence and move away from reliance on paying to purchase water from Oklahoma City.
