Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – What started as a routine eviction turned into a tense standoff after a man barricaded inside his apartment allegedly blasted deputies with a homemade flamethrower and left behind a wired device authorities feared could detonate. Darron Dunn, 61, is now facing charges including possession of an incendiary device after body-camera footage captured the entire encounter.
Deputies Forced To Break In After Locked Door Wouldn’t Budge
Oklahoma County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the apartment on South Harvey Avenue shortly before noon on August 11 to serve an eviction order. When Dunn refused to open the door, Housing Authority staff unlocked it, but the door still would not swing open fully. According to the incident report, an object was blocking it from the inside.
Housing Authority security eventually kicked the door in, and deputies pushed the obstruction out of the way to force their way into the dark, cluttered apartment.
Man Sprays Aerosol And Ignites It Toward Deputies
Once inside, officers spotted Dunn sitting in the bedroom. According to the incident report, he immediately sprayed an aerosol can toward a deputy and a Housing Authority security officer, then lit it on fire, creating what investigators described as an improvised flamethrower.
Body-camera video shows a bright orange fireball erupting from the bedroom as deputies scrambled backward out of the apartment. No injuries were reported.
Wired Device Near Front Door Prompts Bomb Squad Response
