OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Temperatures were again able to reach into the triple digits Monday afternoon. This would mark the 43rd day this year where Oklahoma City was able to get into the 100s! This year is now tied with 1936 for 4th most on record!
The ongoing heat and drought have taken its toll on the land. We have the Gracemont Fire near Binger in Caddo and Canadian Counties still burning from Sunday. At last check, it has burned 3,000 acres and is 0% contained. We also have a newer fire east of Roll in Roger Mills County named the Black Kettle Fire. It has formed quickly due to the strong winds. Then on the water front, we are still expecting the 16,000-acre-foot water release from Canton Lake to help replenish Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. This water release should begin on Thursday.
The heat dome will continue to make for a hot week this week with more 90s and even 100s. The cold front we are tracking will shift into northwest Oklahoma Tuesday, providing that part of the state with the chance for storms, but it lifts back north by Wednesday and stays north of the area until the weekend when it finally looks to pass through.
