Edmond council moving forward with Arcadia Lake upgrades, including gates and cameras

EDMOND, Okla. (KOKH) — On Monday evening, Edmond city leaders decided to move forward with new security upgrades at Arcadia Lake, approving changes to the lake’s master plan that adds new safety measures following a mass shooting there earlier this year.

The Arcadia Lake Master Plan was first adopted in 2023 with the goal of protecting the lake while also making it a modern and inclusive facility. But after the events on May 3rd, when a mass shooting killed 18-year-old Avianna Smith-Gray and injured 22 others, city leaders said additional safety changes were needed.
