Midwest City shooting prompts 15-year sentence for banned ammo possession

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — A shooting at a Midwest City home led to a lengthy federal prison sentence for an Oklahoma City man who authorities say unlawfully possessed ammunition.

On July 2, 2024, officers with the Midwest City Police Department responded to a shooting at a home. A witness told investigators that 30-year-old Ty Lamont Nelson, Jr. forced his way into her home, grabbed a gun from a bag under the bed, assembled it and then shot an unarmed man several times at close range.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and underwent lifesaving surgery…
