Edmond Mayor Darrell A. Davis has announced he will not seek reelection next year.

Davis has served on the Edmond City Council for 13 years and is completing his second term as mayor. In a news release, Davis said he plans to devote all his time to his family after a new mayor is elected.

“Some people may not understand the important role a strong family plays in public service. It comes with great sacrifice, but I have been blessed to have them by my side every day,” he said. “They love this community as much as I do.”

He is making his announcement now, nearly a year before the next election, in the hopes that “there is someone in Edmond who wants to step up like I did and continue to make Edmond a better place to live.”

The retired civil servant who worked at Tinker Air Force Base was first elected mayor in 2021 and was reelected last year. He made history as the first Black mayor of Edmond, a suburban city that once was an anti-Black “sundown town.”
