Newton High School student killed in Oklahoma crash

PAYNE COUNTY, Okla. (KSNW) – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that killed a Newton High School student.

It happened around 6:20 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 35 north of Oklahoma City in Payne County.

The OHP says the crash involved a Kia Soul driven by a 51-year-old Newton woman. A 17-year-old boy, a passenger inside, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 51-year-old woman driver and her 56-year-old male passenger were critically injured and taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Another 13-year-old boy was transported to Stillwater Medical Center and was treated and released.

Two teens charged with Augusta woman’s murder

The teen’s name who was killed isn’t being released at the family’s request.

Newton High School released a statement saying the district “experienced the loss of one of our own students due to a car accident. With the information coming out, we understand that some of our students are experiencing pain and grief. We want to be supportive of those students while also understanding that we are coming into a three-day weekend. Reach out to the school if you need further help or assistance.”
