Oklahoma City Names Brent Bryant as New Assistant City Manager

Oklahoma City’s financial lead, Brent Bryant, is stepping up as the new Assistant City Manager after City Manager Craig Freeman announced the decision. Bryant, who’s been steering the city’s fiscal course since 2019 as Chief Financial Officer, began his service to Oklahoma City back in 1991, making him a seasoned veteran in city operations. His new role places him as Freeman’s second in command, a position previously held by Laura Johnson, who retired last Friday after a notable 45-year tenure with the city.

In this elevated position, Bryant is now responsible for the oversight of pivotal departments including Finance, Public Works, and Utilities, among others. Having managed 16 of the city’s 21 Tax Increment Financing Districts and the city’s sizable $2 billion budget, Bryant’s financial acumen is well-recognized. “Brent has successfully led some of the City’s most complex financial programs over the years,” City Manager Craig Freeman said. His track record includes managing GO bond and trust debt adding up to $2.2 billion, according to a statement posted by Oklahoma City’s official news.

Among Bryant’s extensive experience, notable is his receipt of the Stanley Draper Award in 2018, an honor that highlights his significant contributions to downtown Oklahoma City. As he gears up to influence new spheres within the city’s infrastructure, the profound attachment to his hometown is clear. “I’m honored and blessed to serve in the role,” Bryant told Oklahoma City’s news outlet. “I love Oklahoma City. I have had the privilege to help change the very fabric of our great City in my roles in Finance Administration and the City Manager’s Office. I look forward to this new chapter.”…
