‘Oklahomans deserve better’: Gov. Stitt faces backlash after forestry chief’s departure

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — Just over a week after wildfires devastated communities across Oklahoma, a top state official is out of a job—and Governor Kevin Stitt (R-Okla.) is facing criticism over the decision.

Mark Goeller, former state forester and director of Oklahoma Forestry Services, is no longer with the department, sparking a wave of support from firefighters.

The Jay Fire Department expressed disapproval on social media, stating, “Worst decision [Gov.] Stitt could of made!” and “[Gov.] Stitt is using Mark as a scapegoat!” The department questioned how anyone could effectively combat fires under “[severely] dry conditions, 50+ mph winds, [and] little resources and funding.”…
