The 2025 6666 NRHA Derby is happening this week in OKC. NRHA is the National Reining Horse Association. This year’s derby is the first event in the brand-new OG&E Coliseum on the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds.
The sport’s top 4- to 7- year-old horses will be competing for their share of more than $1 million in prize money. For anyone who is unfamiliar, reining is a Western riding competition for horses in which the riders guide the horses through a precise pattern of circles, spins, and stops. All work is done at the lope (a version of the horse gait more commonly known worldwide as the canter), or the gallop (the fastest of the horse gaits).
