Oklahoma City and Northern Texas Under Heat Advisory, NWS Warns of Heat Index up to 107 Degrees

The National Weather Service in Oklahoma City has issued a heat advisory for a large swath of Oklahoma and parts of northern Texas, effective from noon to 8 PM CDT on Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, heat index values could soar up to 107 degrees, posing a high risk for heat-related illnesses.

Oklahomans are bracing for a scorching weekend with today’s temperature anticipated to peak near 100 degrees and heat index values as high as 105. The South wind is expected to blow at 14 to 16 mph, with gusts reaching up to 26 mph. This oppressive heat comes with a serious reminder from the National Weather Service to “drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.”

As the sweltering heat continues into the night, the temperature is forecasted to drop only to a balmy 79 degrees.
