‘A shock’: OKC neighbors relieved smelly problem property is being cleaned up

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – An Oklahoma City neighborhood says they’re excited steps have been taken to clean up a home that city reports say you can literally smell from the street.

News 4 has been following the story since neighbors in the Northwest Oklahoma City addition initially contacted our newsroom with complaints in July. The bulk of the visible issues with the property, News 4 employees observed, were tied to the front porch area. Trash was littered across a path leading up the porch, including open cans of discarded animal food, standing water, fly traps, and other junk. The odor coming from the nearby area was so distinct that News 4 employees had to take multiple breaks.

Open city reports backed up neighbors’ complaints, with city employees telling News 4 there were three cases still open. One open case, dated June 25, was only tied to high grass. Another open June 25 case talked about a “putrid odor” coming from the front door. The last open case, dated July 1, said Oklahoma City Animal Welfare and Oklahoma City Police got a warrant to search the property, calling it “beyond uninhabitable.”

The case notes added that during the July 1 response, over 35 cats were removed from the home, along with six dead cats in “various stages of decomposition.” The case said that the “floors and walls” inside the home were “covered in feces” and that “you can smell the house from the street.”…
