The public is invited to hear a PowerPoint lecture by Marie Žilová titled “Surviving Auschwitz” on Thursday, Oct. 9 at Yukon Czech Hall, 205 N Czech Hall Road.
Žilová will present the account of her father’s survival from Auschwitz, a Nazi concentration camp during World War II.
A civic leader, teacher, actor, and Sokol member, Jaroslov Sýkora was arrested along with 32 other local Czech civic leaders in 1941 by the Gestapo. The Nazis did not want these men coming back, so they were sent to Auschwitz. Of the 32 men, only eight survived. Jaroslov returned home to his family…
