Local church giving away groceries to help during government shutdown

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – A local church is lending a helping hand by giving groceries to those affected by the government shutdown. The Regional Food Bank said they’re also ready to help, along with their 1,300 partners across Oklahoma.

Preparations were underway Thursday morning at Thrive Community Church in northwest Oklahoma City to help put food on the table for those who need it most. All the food will be handed out on Thursday at 7 p.m. and each Thursday after that as everyone prepares for a disruption to SNAP benefits starting November 1 if the government shutdown continues.

“I feel like we’ve gotten several calls over just in the last two days,” Chotsie Barnes, the pastor’s wife at the church, said.

Barnes said there are no requirements like IDs, income limits, or appointments needed…
